Leaks from a Mojang document suggest that a new Minecraft spin-off game is to be released in 2026, but fans seem divided on the information.
Leak Points to a New Minecraft Spin-off
In recent months, there seem to have been numerous Minecraft leaks for some reason. One more has just appeared over the horizon as Reddit user Successful-Meat-5632 has posted a puzzling image on the Leaks and Rumors subreddit.
According to the post, there will be a new Minecraft Spin-Off game coming out sometime in 2026. The alleged game is called Spicewood and the (admittedly, very blurry) logo from which we learn its name also includes a phrase written in the standard galactic alphabet, originally created for the Commander Keen video game series. This alphabet is used in Minecraft Dungeons and the Enchantment Table as well.
Interestingly, that’s the second big leak we’ve had so far this year. Last week we learned that Minecraft might get a new UI layout, although this might not affect every version of the game.
Is the Leak Legit?
When they first saw this, many Minecraft fans thought this could be AI faked, and for good reason. The image is rather low quality and has a strange color fade effect that always seems persistent in many AI-generated images. However, YouTuber Phoenix SC claims the leak is legit for several reasons:
(His breakdown of the leak starts at about 4:09)
Firstly, he explained that the strange sign above the “Spicewood” title is written in the aforementioned standard galactic alphabet. When translated it says “vertical slice”, which is one way that companies tell consumers and invested people that there is a product in place. Furthermore, according to Phoenix SC, AI tools cannot make any convincing text using that language.
Secondly, the YouTuber mentioned that a prominent leaker, Rodger Badgerman, has also mentioned the name Spicewood in the past.
Lastly, the OP that uploaded the image to the subreddit linked a bigger image from which this alleged title has been cropped. Interestingly, the document seems to contain some sensitive information, so the OP had to cover some stuff. “There’s a watermark over the image with a name on it so I have to censor it out, but there really isn’t any other interesting information on it other than the game,” the wrote.
What Did Fans Say?
To say fans had a mixed reaction would be somewhat of an understatement. Some have suggested that Spicewood is a codename for a new Minecraft Dungeons title. Others suggest the foins in the image look more like the Legends one. That being said, both of these titles received a lukewarm welcome, which could spell bad for the potential upcoming 2026 game.
Other fans joked about the whole leaked document shows that Mojang doesn’t really have a lot of plans for the upcoming years. “THREE YEARS OF CONTENT!!?? That’s like a whole one and a half mobs!!” one comment reads.
“I like how the roadmap essentially just says “update” repeatedly, outside of the movie and Spicewood,” another player wrote. “It offers no insight to the content, or future plans for the game. The most nothing burger roadmap I have ever seen.”
Other fans seem to be unhappy with the amount of information we know now. “Yall really call this leak a tsunami? This shit couldn’t hydrate a field mouse,” one commenter wrote.
At the end of the day, Mojang has not addressed the leaks and the alleged upcoming spin-off Minecraft game. But considering Microsoft has previously tried to make other spin-off titles (and had mixed results with them) there are decent chances we might get a new Minecraft title sometime next year.
