NetherRealm Vice President and Creative Director Ed Boon sure knows how to tease an audience! In his recent X post, he essentially gave us MK1 fans a chance to pick which Kameo Fighter we want to see in MK1’s Year Two expansion Khaos Reigns. This post should somewhat silence the critics of the game for lack of content diversity, at least for the time being.
For those of you unfamiliar with what a Kameo is, it’s essentially a secondary character from a separate roster that can support your main character in battle. While not being exactly a full fledged playable character, a Kameo still gives a whole new playstyle and combos not normally accessible by other means. Naturally, this is insanely fun, giving players a lot of options and diversity, which is why this question is so exciting for all Kombatants.
Which Kameos Can We Expect?
Boon gave us four options to choose from, some of which are pretty wild and unexpected, from a variety of fan-favorite universes. Without further ado, here they are:
- Blanche – the seemingly innocent MKX old lady-turned-cannonball.
- Kidd Thunder – the mini Raiden… thing from MK2.
- Invincible – Omni-Man’s literal son.
- Chucky – the creepy doll that just won’t go away.
I personally can’t wait to throw that old lady at my hated online enemies once again. Those were good MKX times… Anyway, you can probably discern that ¾ of those suggestions are on the humorous side, with the only exception being Omni-Man’s son Invincible. This is rather odd, especially in the Mortal Kombat setting, but perhaps Ed Boon wants to explore different options for the game. I’m not personally a fan of that – babalities and friendships have always felt awkward, but if the fans want it – why not!
In his infinite wisdom, Boon did not give any time frame for the poll, nor whether or not this will 100% guarantee any of the Kameo’s inclusion. All in all, it doesn’t seem like a serious post at all, but wilder things have happened in the past. We could see none of those characters, but from what we’ve seen from Boon and Midway in the past, we just might see all four of them.
