New patent filings for the Nintendo Switch 2 reveal that the console will have NFC support, among many other important technical data.
New Nintendo Switch 2 Technical Data Emerges
As the official release date of the Nintendo Switch 2 draws near, more and more information leaks to the general public. According to some filings that Nintendo put forward to the Federal Communication Commission (FCC), the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) feature is located in the Switch 2’s right Joy-Con, just like the original console. This begs the question of whether the Nintendo Switch 2 will support existing Amiibo figurines that can wirelessly unlock in-game content.
The console will almost certainly support NFC, as noted by the patent. The Nintendo Switch 2 is reportedly identified as the BEE-001, according to the company’s radio equipment test filings. “BEE” is Nintendo’s code for the Switch 2 product line, with “001” referring to the main console, “014” for the right Joy-Con, and “012” for the left Joy-Con.

Aside from the prospects of using existing Amiibo figurines in the new Nintendo Switch 2, the patent also revealed some more things regarding the console’s functionalities. For example, the filings also confirm that the Switch 2 can be charged through either its bottom USB-C port or a new top port, a feature fans anticipated after the console’s official reveal.
Additionally, the Nintendo Switch 2 will support Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) networks with up to 80MHz of bandwidth, an upgrade from the Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) found on the original Switch. It should also be noted that the upcoming console is rated for a maximum of 15V. However, what makes things more interesting is that the AC adapter goes up to 20V. This leaves us questioning what the charge speed of the Switch 2 will be.
Ultimately, a lot of these questions will be answered after Nintendo officially reveals the console sometime this year. When exactly this will be is anyone’s guess.
