Netflix has acquired the rights to stream the Halo TV show and rumors of a potential season 3 being produced are bubbling.

Netflix to Stream Halo TV Show

The Halo TV show has been a divisive thing in the Halo community, to say the least. The show’s two seasons received mixed reviews from both critics and fans, which ultimately led to it being canceled last year. However, for better or worse Pablo Schreiber might be donning the iconic green suit of armor once again as Netflix has acquired the rights to the series.

Originally exclusive to Paramount+, the Halo TV show will air on Netflix starting in March, at least in some seasons. Despite Paramount canceling plans for the third season last year, the first and second ones are still available for streaming on the platform, and will soon also be available on Netflix.

With that being the case, many rumors have started circling around that the Halo TV show might return to the streaming site with a third season. Netflix is notorious for funding any and every project pitched at them, so a reactivation of the show is not out of the question. However, take these rumors with a pinch of salt as the company has not said anything about making a third season of the show, at least not yet.

What Could a Potential New Season Be About?

We won’t dive deep into why the existing two seasons of the Halo TV show got a mixed reception. From Master Chief being without a helmet for 2/3 of the series to Quan’s pointless subplot. All of that has been discussed in great length elsewhere.

So for this reason, we think that if Netflix brings back the Halo TV show, they should just start from scratch. This could mean they follow the story in the main games and not invent the whole “silver timeline” which is technically not canon. Alternatively, they could make a show following the story of something else that’s canon in the Halo universe, but is not the main six games (or original trilogy if you’re OG like that).

For example, we know that humanity has been fighting the Covenant for almost three decades, and Master Chief has been there for it all. Imagine how cool it would be to have a show depicting some of the many battles he’s fought before the beginning of Halo: Combat Evolved.

Alternatively, we would like to see other heroes. In the books, there are many other Spartans like Chief’s Blue Team colleagues Linda, Fred, and Kelly, all of whom go through the toughest of battles over the decades of war against the Covenant. Following the story of others, even just regular soldiers, could give us a great glimpse of what it was to be an ordinary human in the war. Halo: ODST for example has a great setting and mood and is arguably one of the best spin-off games amongst any franchise ever. A TV show following a similar story will likely land well in the Halo community.

We can just say, Netflix, if you’re ever planning to revive the Halo TV show, don’t mess it up like Paramount did!
