Spectre Divide is bringing some core new gameplay concepts that will shake the tactical shooter genre to its foundations.

What Is Spectre Divide?

CS2 and Valorant have arguably been the top two contenders when it comes to the modern tactical FPS. However, judging by the numbers that an upcoming shooter’s closed beta is pulling, there might soon be a third entry into the race. Spectre Divide is currently being tested and thousands of players have flocked to try out the game’s closed beta.

Developed by Mountaintop Studios and revolving around its core concept of Duality, the game is set in the early 22nd century when an underground shooting sport has taken over the crowds. Thanks to a new technology, participants, a.k.a. the players, can spawn-in a second body, which they can switch to controlling. Considering this new body is created by throwing a special device on the ground, you can see how one can outflank an opponent by literally teleporting behind them.

The actual switching between these two bodies is quite simple with the press of a button, making for quite a dynamic experience. It also means that you are essentially your own backup if you get in a tight spot, you can relatively easily hop into your other character and get out of danger or flank your opponents. The core mechanic also means that despite being a 3vs3 game, it plays kind of like a 6vs6 at times.

Spectre Divide’s Beta Is Gaining Popularity Fast

If you’ve watched gameplay videos of the game, you are probably not surprised why there’s much hype surrounding the new title. Aside from the unique among competitive shooters concept of Duality, the game also sports a cool cyberpunk aesthetic, inspired by comic books and cell-shaded works.

To further popularize their work, Mountaintop Studios have brought aboard Michael “shroud” Grzesiek as one of its main gameplay advisers. The 30-year-old esports player is one of the best Counter-Strike and Valorant players in the North American region. While not currently playing professionally in any team, the esports pro has a massive following on social media as a streamer. He has lent his opinion and experience in tac-shooters to the devs and is also a key reason why the game’s closed beta is currently exploding on Steam.

Eager players, many coming from shroud’s community, have flocked to play the testing version of the game. According to Steam Charts, more than 6000 players are playing the Spectre Divide closed beta at the time of writing. Furthermore, the platform recorded an almost 16,000 all-time peak for beta, which launched just a couple of days ago. Considering the weekend is coming up, this number will likely go up even higher.

How to Play the Spectre Divide Beta?

With all the hype surrounding the game, you might want to try it out yourselves. Fortunately, there are two ways to gain access to the closed beta. You can head over to the official Steam page to register your interest. Alternatively, you can earn a key by watching streamers who’ve signed up to show off some Spectre Divide content.

The Spectre Divide closed beta runs until Wednesday, August 21, so you still have some more time to try it out.
