As a fan of the horror games and the retro aesthetic, I couldn’t help but write a piece about the upcoming 16-bit Retro Realms: Ash vs the Evil Dead. This new fun edition is based on the very fun, very epic Ash vs the Evil Dead TV series. If you haven’t watched it yet – I highly recommend that you do.
If you happen to be new to the wonderful world of The Evil Dead, then you’re in for a ride! If you fancy some zombie/demon hybrids known as “deadites”, magic, chainsaws and lots of gun action, then this is the franchise for you. The original movie was released way back in 1981, instantly becoming a cult classic, quickly turning into a trilogy. But it doesn’t stop there – there are multiple standalone films, graphic novels, games, and more! There’s a reason why the franchise is still popular after more than forty years.
There’s a high chance you might even be familiar with some of the franchise’s iconic characters and items without even realizing it. Notable examples are the infamous grimoire known as the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis, or the shotgun-wielding chainsaw-handed handsome devil known as Ash. If he sounds like a modded version of Doomguy– that’s not surprising. He’s been killing demons for a while too!
All of the Action, All of the Nostalgia!
So, what can we expect from Retro Realms: Ash vs the Evil Dead? Developer WayForward and publisher Boss Team Games promise a lot of boomstick action, with quite a bit of chainsaw-hand combat. Top that with the gorgeous gory 16 bit graphics and you’ve got a recipe for an all-nighter just like in the old days! That is, if your body can still keep up.
Those of you who choose to pre-order Retro Realms: Ash vs the Evil Dead will get access to another playable character in the form of badass chick Kelly Maxwell. The game’s trailer reveals a variety of iconic deadites and bosses, coupled with some pretty smooth and satisfying combat!
