The RTX 5090 and RTX 5080’s prices have been high because production can’t keep up with demand, but officials say the former should soon catch up to the latter.

NVIDIA Is Working to Improve RTX 5090 Supply

Ever since NVIDIA announced the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 GPUs in January of this year, both graphics cards have been climbing in price as demand for them has also been increasing. However, the company recently said that prices should start stabilizing once stock levels have improved.

The RTX 50-series entered the market in late January but soaring demand for the components meant the existing stockpiles quickly ran out. NVIDIA hasn’t been able to keep up with demand, which has resulted in a huge increase in the selling price of still unsold pieces. While the RTX 5090 is arguably the best GPU you can buy right now, when it comes to sheer power, it’s safe to say that from the gamers’ point of view, it’s not been a great success as a lot of people couldn’t get their hands on them.

However, now NVIDIA is trying to calm down the angry voices by saying that prices should come down as soon as production catches up.

In a recent media briefing, Nvidia GeForce product manager Justin Walker shared with Tweaktown that, in response to a question about MSRP pricing for RTX 50-series cards, the company is working hard to ensure that “supply is available at MSRP” for both retailers and board partners. He also explained that “the best way to achieve this is by increasing supply on store shelves” for gamers to purchase, with the company anticipating prices to decrease as stock availability improves.

Walker also confirmed that contrary to appearances, NVIDIA has managed to ship twice as many GPUs since the launch of the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 on January 30 compared to the same period during the RTX 40-series launch. However, considering the longer gap between the releases of the RTX 4090, RTX 4080, and RTX 4070, the higher sales volume this time might not be particularly surprising, given the broader range of RTX 50-series GPUs that have been launched so far.

While Walker confirmed that there are now more shipments going out, the company has not yet given exact times and dates when production will meet demand. However, if Walker’s words turn out to be true, gamers should expect more RTX 50-series GPUs for affordable prices at their local retailers soon.
