Despite being a marksman’s rifle, the MCW 6.8 cannot deal out sufficient damage, prompting fans to wonder why the devs have not buffed the weapon since Modern Warfare 3 launched.
Fans Complain about this Modern Warfare 3 Rifle
Every Call of Duty game is quite popular for the sheer amount and variety of different guns and Modern Warfare 3 is no exception to the rule. With this being the case, players are spoiled for choice, but many still wonder why the game’s devs have not given enough attention to one particular marksman rifle that has been absolutely “useless” since launch.
Usually, developers Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games try to constantly adjust each gun in the game in order to keep the meta competitive. However, it seems the MCW 6.8 has not received the love it deserves, as the rifle has not received any buffs since the launch of Modern Warfare 3 last year.
“How is this gun STILL so useless?” Reddit user ‘Latro2020’ shared a post asking the question that has been on many Modern Warfare 3 fans’ minds. “The MCW 6.8 is by far the worst damn gun in this game. It’s a “Marksman Rifle” but really it just feels like they took the MCW, gutted its mag size & set it to semi auto,” the player continues in his post.
The player then proceeded to compare the weapon with other guns in the game to make his point stand out even more. He said that despite Modern Warfare 3 being in its 5th season already, the MCW 6.8 is outclassed by everything. “Now we have guns like the Superi & STG which this gun will lose to EVERY TIME,” the fan wrote. “I’d normally just wait for buffs or something, but it seems like SHG is intent on keeping this gun unusable for as long as this game exists.”

While it might seem like the simplest solution to the issue is to just play with another gun, many other fans chimed into the discussion to support Latro2020’s opinion. One player said that even with a 30-round mag upgrade, the MCW 6.8 is still a bad weapon. “You gotta land 1 headshot for a 2 hit kill but at that point, you might as well use another weapon,” the Modern Warfare 3 player further explained.
“If a marksman rifle can’t 1 tap the brain box at most ranges in 6v6, that ain’t a marksman rifle. It’s a semi auto only battle rifle. And a shit one at that,” another player eloquently wrote.
However, there seems to be one saving grace for the MCW 6.8, as according to some fans, it’s a decent gun in Hardcore, where health is much lower and the rifle can one-shot. Others said that the Full-Auto Conversion Kit makes it slightly more useable. Unfortunately, that has been reduced from 30 rounds to 20, making it the only change to the weapon since the launch of Modern Warfare 3 last year.
Unfortunately, it is still not known when or even if the game’s devs will give the MCW 6.8 the buff it needs. Considering Black Ops 6 is coming in October with a new lineup of guns, it might be too late for the MCW 6.8 to become a meta contender.
